Eight Days to May

For boarding and international school students home for the break: AP Latin Prose and Poetry, fully caught up in eight sessions

For a student at a boarding school or an international school who wants to sit the AP Latin exam this May, the December break is the one stretch of time that truly belongs to them. We built the Winter Intensive around it.

Eight sessions

The Intensive meets Monday through Thursday for two weeks: December 21 to 24, and December 28 to 31. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both fall on a Friday, and both are free. Classes meet in the daytime, Korea time, for students who are home in Korea over the break.

Two courses run side by side, AP Latin Prose and AP Latin Poetry. By the end of the eighth session, a student is fully caught up, and joins our weekly AP classes, Prose on Saturdays and Poetry on Sundays, through the exam in May.

Then the spring

A student who is caught up by January is not merely safe for May. Spring is the season of the international Latin and classical humanities contests, and a student reading at the AP level can enter them at the advanced levels, where the competition is most rewarding. Emerson Latin handles the preparation and the registration; we are a member of the organizations that run these contests, and our students have a long record in them.

Why eight days is enough

Catching up in Latin is not a matter of hours alone. It is a matter of reading the right lines in the right order, with someone who knows where the difficulties are. That is what eight days with a teacher can do that eight weeks alone cannot. This year, three of our students received a 5.
