Winter Term 2026: Which Course Is Right for Your Child?

Most parents arrive at this page with one question: where does my child fit? Find your child below. Each line is the course we would recommend. If your child sits between two lines, the fifteen-minute conversation will settle it.

Winter Term begins on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22: ten weekly classes of two hours each, live on Zoom. Every class, at every level, is taught by Ioannes Magister, who began Latin at twelve in a seminary where it was read and spoken every day.

Grades 5 and 6

Grades 7 and 8

Grades 9 to 12

Taking the AP Latin exam this May

The exam covers both prose and poetry, so AP students take both courses. Choose one of two ways to begin:

Grades 9 to 12: English reading and writing for international essay competitions

Humane Letters, Volume I, Saturdays or Sundays, 1 to 3 PM. This course is taught in English, not Latin: the great books, read closely, and polished essays written for international writing competitions through the year. Open to students whether or not they study Latin with us. Admission by Viva.

All times are Korea time.

Every class is recorded. Enrolled students have the recordings for the whole course, so a student who misses one week, or many, never falls behind.

What a class looks like. Every class opens with a certamen, a quick round of questions to wake the room up. A new point of grammar is explained as briefly as it can be, at the start of the class or at the end, depending on the course. The rest of the class belongs to the students: reading aloud, translating, answering. A student in this kind of class is speaking, not watching.

Who comes. Most of our students begin with no Latin at all. They come from boarding schools such as Phillips Exeter and Groton, from international schools such as Seoul Foreign School, from foreign language high schools in Korea, and from public and private schools in America and around the world. Most of their schools offer no Latin, let alone AP Latin. They stay with us from their first sentence to the AP exam and the international competitions. Meet them on our Student Body page, and see what they have won on our Commendations page.

What happens when you write to us. Every first step takes fifteen minutes, and for Latin it is free.

Once your child is placed, you receive the first class link and the materials before November 21.

Write to us on KakaoTalk in Korean, WhatsApp in English, or at contact@emersonlatin.com. We reply within one business day. Or book your fifteen minutes directly.
