Latin Literature
Grade: Middle & High School
Tutor: John Cho
Format: Real-time virtual sessions foster active participation and collaboration among students and the tutor.
Prerequisites: Completion of any of our Latin programs (Oxford, Grammar, Intensive, ASAP, or Natural), or an equivalent level of proficiency.
Duration: Each course spans 20 class hours.
Who Should Take These Courses?
Students who have completed any of our Latin language programs are eligible to enroll in our Latin literature offerings. Some students choose to take one or two of these courses before entering our AP Latin program to sharpen their translation skills for the unseen passages on the exam. Others enroll after completing the AP Latin Exam to sustain their Latin proficiency and prepare for international competitions. Additionally, students may join due to their interest in specific Roman and Medieval authors, ranging from Caesar and Cicero to Augustine and Saint Jerome.
Course Objectives
Our Latin literature courses focus on two main objectives:
Translation Practice: Students will learn to translate passages as literally as possible, refining their skills for various international contests at the highest levels.
Thematic and Philosophical Discussions: In addition to translation, we engage in discussions about the broader thematic and philosophical elements present in the texts. This encourages critical thinking about the content and its impact on Roman culture and beyond.
Course Offerings
Each course comprises 10 two-hour sessions.
