On the Merit of Precise Translation

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) has released the results of the 2025-2026 International Latin Translation Exam. This particular competition is noted for its rigor; unlike many examinations that seek to reward participation, CAMWS employs a randomized, blind grading process modeled after Advanced Placement standards to identify only the most exceptional work.

It is a pleasure to record that two Emerson Latin students, Haram Park and Jay Hoo Yoo, have been named Book Award Winners in the Secondary Division.

In an age characterized by speed and approximation, the act of translation remains a restorative discipline. It requires a student to inhabit the mind of a classical author and account for every nuance of syntax and sentiment. That these students have been recognized on an international stage is a natural consequence of their commitment to that discipline. We acknowledge their achievement not as a culmination, but as a quiet confirmation of their ongoing formation.
